The Fixx had just played the Paradise the previous November, this time they played for about 60,000 people, far more than they were used to, and the crowd dug it. Nobody was hollering "bring on Sting" or anything like that, and it was a fine Fixx set. Sullivan Stadium was a far cry from its recent replacement, Gillette Stadium, and was as lousy a place to see or hear a concert as the Patriots were a lousy football team when they played in this oversized tuna fish can, so Sullivan Stadium concerts were kept to a minimum (who can ever forget in 1983, they allowed David Bowie's wimpiest tour ever to play there- Serious Sappage 83- and the very next year, banned Michael Jackson's Grammy-winning "Thriller" tour concert in 84, which may very well have been his best and most popular. And no it has Nothing to do with child-abuse allegations- that was much later. This is how they define equal opportunity in Foxboro, Massachusetts, but this is the same state that banned Led Zeppelin- in 1975!...). I digress... Cheerier subject: The Fixx was a band good enough to be worth seeing this show for all by themselves, touring their 2nd album "Reach the Beach". This is by far the largest venue I've ever heard the Fixx play in and it didn't phase them at all. It even sounded good, and that's a major achievement for any band here, especially one as musically creative as the Fixx. As for the Police, they had done the full circle of Boston venues, from the Rat to the Paradise to the Orpheum to the Boston Garden, and finally, this time they played the largest available venue they could find in New England that would have them, and sold it out too. I believe the Rat is the only venue in Boston to host a non-sold-out Police concert. These guys became huge in Boston with their debut album (Outlandos d'amour, I think it was, I was never that big a fan, especially the 1st record. I think the Police got more interesting after that) and ever since the 4/79 Paradise broadcast (now part of official double live disc with late 79 Orpheum show,) every Police show in Boston has been a very big deal, and this was the biggest tour the Police ever had- Syncronicity tour was mostly in arenas and football stadiums, at the pinnacle of the band's popularity. There are a few slight off-notes from Sting in this show, but as a whole, it was an inspired and solid performance (including Sting's vocals). Sting refers to having played the Rat and seeing the crowds grow ever since, sounding appreciative of the attention. This band must like Boston area, they released not 1 but 2 concerts from here in that double disc (most of both of them, if not all) and have always been well appreciated here. This was no exception. This recording is a Purple Moon production, and a nice one it is, not that much crowd on here considering how loud they were. He does a good job getting a clear path from stage to mikes so the presence is pretty good in the recording. This was a very good double bill, both bands played well and got warm receptions. The Fixx are one of my favorite 80's bands and much like the Police, have a ton of great hit songs. Both these sets appear to be complete, I think there's one brief flip cut in the Police set but not much is missing there at all, and the sound isn't bad at all for this place. Do not sell this recording. Trade freely and losslessly. This recording of the Fixx was seeded once before by yyzed311, now it's off the tracker. The Police show was seeded by another uploader from another source which is also no longer on the tracker. So with the U.S. election (we hope this time) just days away, it must be time for a "fixpol", this one of a much better kind than that expression usually implies because this has nothing to do with a fixed poll. It is so called, because it's a great 2/3rds of a triple bill, one of the 3 biggest concerts of the year in Boston area for 1983 (along with RTF and Al, John and Paco). The Flock of Seagulls flew the coop, I don't have that opening set, but these were both really nice sets and a nice recording (thanks to Purple Moon Productions for these 2 sets which will make a nice 2 disc set.) ---- This came fit the Fixx set, I have split them for ease of archiving. - Carlo Nov 2008 length expanded size cdr WAVE probs filename 0:38.14 6736172 --- -- -xx 01 stage announcements.flac 0:46.60 8255564 --- -- -xx 02 walk on music walking in your footsteps.flac 3:08.67 33320828 --- -- -xx 03 syncronicity part I.flac 4:52.00 51508844 --- -- -xx 04 syncronicity part 2.flac 3:57.61 41950316 --- -- -xx 05 walking in your footsteps.flac 4:13.08 44648060 --- -- -xx 06 message in a bottle.flac 3:33.19 37617932 --- -- -xx 07 demolition man.flac 3:24.51 36105596 --- -- -xx 08 oh my god.flac 5:11.35 54942764 --- -- -xx 09 de do do do de da da da.flac 5:07.50 54272444 --- -- -xx 10 wrapped around your finger.flac 4:09.67 44081228 --- -- -xx 11 tea in the sahara.flac 3:20.44 35383532 --- -- -xx 12 spirits in the material world.flac 4:59.08 52762460 --- -- -xx 13 there's a hole.flac 4:55.46 52146236 --- -- -xx 14 invisible sun.flac 6:11.62 65590268 --- -- -xx 15 one world.flac 7:23.55 78274604 --- -- -xx 16 king of pain.flac 4:40.23 49446140 --- -- -xx 17 every breath you take.flac 5:30.46 58320236 --- -- -xx 18 murder by numbers.flac 3:49.72 40564988 --- -- -xx 19 don't stand so close to me.flac 4:58.68 52727180 --- -- -xx 20 roxanne.flac 6:59.50 74029244 --- -- -xx 21 can't stand losing you.flac 7:03.59 74756012 --- -- -xx 22 so lonely.flac 98:57.65 1047440648 B (totals for 22 files, 0.6131 overall compression ratio)
