The recording was compiled from five different sources: [A] bootleg-CD "Orpheum" (Digital Phone Digit; 103) [B] bootleg-CD "For A Few Ones"(Bucaneer Records; BUC 044) [C] bootleg-CD "Message From New York" (Flashback; 04.91.0144) [D] bootleg-CD "Policemen in New York" (Home Records; HR6020-1) [E] WNEW-FM rebroadcast 1988 All these sources were most likely taken from different FM broadcasts by WNEW. The sound quality of each of the sources is not equal. The quality of sources [A] and [E] is not perfect. Information about the origin of each track: 01 Can't Stand Losing You (taken from [C01]) 02 Truth Hits Everybody (taken from [D09]) 03 So Lonely (taken from [D10]) 04 Fall Out (taken from [D11]) 05 Born In The 50's (taken from [B06]) 06 Hole In My Life/ Fixing A Hole (taken from [B04]) 07 Be My Girl-Sally (taken from [B04]) 08 Peanuts (taken from [A07]) 09 Roxanne (taken from [A09]) 10 Landlord (taken from [B07]) 11 Next To You (taken from [B08]) 12 Can't Stand Losing You (taken from [A12]) During the editing of this recording the following changes were made: - end of track 5: deleted the part of Sting saying "Landlord" (which didn't belong there!) - end of track 5: added part of Sting saying "Thank you. Hole In My Life" (from end of [B03]) - end of track 7: added longer outro part (from end of track [A08]) - during track 11: added the part "Thank you Bottom Line" (from track [A11]) - end of track 11: added longer outro part (from end of track [A11]) - end of track 12: added "Thank you" part from recording [E] The intro of Hole In My Life is missing! The beginning of Be My Girl-Sally is missing (the recordings starts with Andy's poem). To make this recording sound more smoothly, some cross fadings were made between several tracks. Source [E] was taken from the following torrent: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=195118 The complete lineage of source [E] is: FM broadcast (WNEW-FM in 1988) > analog audio cassette (Sony HF90; unknown generation) > SONY TC-K4615 (stereo cassette deck) > PHILIPS CDR 870 (standalone CD-recorder) > CDRW > EAC 0.99 > WAV > CoolEdit Pro 2.1 > Trader's Little Helper 1.1.1 (Build 90) > FLAC (level 8) Remarks: This recording is from their fourth and final set of their two-sets-a-night stay at the Bottom Line (on April 3 and 4, 1979). WNEW-FM recorded both sets of The Police on the night of April 4, 1979. The recording of the (complete) first set is quite common and widely spreaded. You can still find it here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=180636 This torrent contains the complete second set and is less common! Two songs (Landlord and Next To You) of the first set were officially released on the A&M compilation album Propaganda (and later on the 4CD-set "Message In A Box"). The version of Landlord and Next To You in this torrent are from the second set and therefore NOT the same as the officially released stuff! ==================== During intro Can't Stand Losing You (0.07): "sinowwww" and later (0.19): "owwwwwww". Before Truth Hits Everybody: "Truth Hits Everybody". Stewart: "1, 2, 3, 4". During intro of Truth Hits Everybody: "Come on". Before So Lonely: "Thank you. Thanks a lot. I tell you, we enjoy our stay in New York. We have been here for five days now. We have been in the Hotel Iroquois on 42nd Street. That's pretty funky. Get down. This is called So Lonely". During So Lonely (about 2 minutes before the end) Sting sang: "Here in New York City [3x]. So many people, too many people". Before Fall Out: "Thank you, New York. This was our first ever single..in England. It's called Fall Out". Andy: "think about it". Sting: "Middletown Pennsylvania". After Be My Girl Sally: "Oooo, poetry for the masses". Before Roxanne: "Thank you. Roxanne. You don't have to put on the red light". During Roxanne: "This is our last show in New York. I'd like you to sing with us. We did four shows here. Three shows they sang great. Like birds. I don't want you to let them down. OK? OK? Good singers, right? Proove it. You follow my lead. Dead easy". Later during Roxanne: "We could go on all night. How about a world record for the longest song ever? Would you go for it? Guiness Book of Records: 1979 April. The longest song ever done was Roxanne by The Police for ten hours. During which Sting grew a beard. Andy lost his teeth. Stewart's wood leg fell off. I don't think that is such a good idea". Near the end (near 2.00 minutes into the song) of Next To You: "OK. Andy Summers on the guitar. Stewart Copeland on the drums. Goodnight. Thank you Bottom Line. Thank you. Goodnight. 1, 2, 3, 4". (The part "Thank you Bottom Line" is on (track 11 of) the bootleg "Orpheum", but NOT on (track 8 of) the bootleg "For A Few Ones". I assume the bootleggers erased it, just to avoid that someone could "identify" the recording). Before Can't Stand Losing You Andy: "I'll take mine off too". Sting: "I think you should Andy. Last night at the Bottom Line. Do you want him to take his shirt off or not?". Andy: "That's as far as I go. Actually I made of rubber. Horrible". Sting: "Can't Stand Losing You again". ==================== Thanks to showmaster for providing the recordings from the bootleg-CDs! A very special thanks to oliswax for doing some essential research! Without the help of oliswax I was not able to compile such a complete recording! Merci beaucoup, oliswax!
